Ireland as a canyoning destination is unfortunately not geologically suited. During the last Ice Age Ireland was covered by glaciers. This resulted in Ireland having its rolling hills and limited height variation which it is known for today. Further more, large amounts of Ireland is limestone, which geologically is not suited to canyon creation as in these Karst areas caves are generally formed instead of canyons. There are a few small canyons known however they are very limited in both length and technical challenge.
